Defeated by the Blood
Project type
Wall Relief/ Sculpture
Artist Statement
This work captures a pivotal moment in the Exodus narrative—the aftermath of the final plague, as Pharaoh surveys the abandoned homes of the Israelites. The bloodstained doorposts, once mere symbols of enslavement, now stand as marks of deliverance. In this scene, Pharaoh, the embodiment of earthly power, confronts his own defeat—not by an army, but by the blood of a lamb.
Through this piece, I explore the tension between authority and divine intervention, between control and liberation. The striking contrast of absence and presence—the empty dwellings and the enduring bloodstains—invites reflection on the transformative power of sacrifice and faith. This is a meditation on the moment when human power falters before divine will, when the marks of bondage become the signs of redemption.
