Blue Hydrangea
Painting
Acrylic on Canvas, 48" x 48" x 1.25
Hydrangeas have long been a familiar presence in my life, their clustered blossoms forming a quiet yet constant backdrop to the changing seasons. Unlike the more commonly depicted roses and peonies, hydrangeas are rarely the focus of close-up artistic study. Yet, I am drawn to their intricate textures, shifting hues, and the way they embody time’s passage.
Their luxurious blues—achieved only through a full season of transformation—speak to the depth and patience required in both nature and art. Each petal is a mosaic of subtle transitions, revealing whispers of violet, periwinkle, and indigo, shaped by the earth’s chemistry and the atmosphere’s embrace. In capturing these blooms up close, I seek to honor their quiet complexity, inviting viewers to see beyond the surface and appreciate the delicate interplay of light, color, and time.
